When and why was EDEC founded?
EDEC was founded in 2009 to innovate products that protect digital evidence by isolating devices from outside signals that may alter or erase data on detained devices. EDEC’s products have served as an essential tool in the world of mobile device forensics. Their products have been trusted by law enforcement, military branches, and government agencies for more than 10 years. Today, EDEC is introducing Off Grid™, a new generation of Faraday protection that integrates EDEC’s military-grade security features into sleek and durable high-tech designs.
What is Faraday technology and why is it central to your products?
Our bags create a conductive enclosure around devices to block electromagnetic fields and signals. Faraday material acts as a barrier that prevents signals from entering or exiting the device enclosed inside. An enclosed EDEC Faraday bag dissipates incoming radio waves around the outside surface of the bag to prohibit signals from penetrating the device inside. Similarly, signals from the device within the bag cannot penetrate the material as they are conducted and contained along the inside surface. This effectively isolates a device from any outside network so it cannot be hacked, tracked, or detected. It is completely off the grid.
Every EDEC bag focuses on maintaining the integrity of its enclosure when it is in use to effectively shield all potential signals. Faraday bags are used in the digital forensics field to preserve evidence by preventing the remote wiping or alteration of data on devices in police chain-of-custody. EDEC bags protect sensitive military information and intelligence, safeguard devices that could be remotely triggered, and prevent the tracking of soldiers in the field. EDEC’s new line of Off Grid™ products integrates this elite level of shielding with new lifestyle designs to protect the security of parties both big and small.
Why is personal digital security so important?
Most people are unaware of just how exposed their personal data is on their mobile devices. There are countless ways for remote hackers to take advantage of unguarded personal data. Devices can inadvertently connect to unsecured wifi networks that leave them open to malware, tracking, or non-consensual surveillance. Many corporations track cell phones through installed apps without users’ authorization. Geo-fencing is used to poach data to identify users and target them with ads or fundraising ploys. EDEC offers a solution to these privacy concerns and grants peace of mind for everyone in the face of a rising tide of digital threats.
What does EDEC aim to do for its consumers?
The proliferation of cloud platforms, cellular devices, and IoT machines make unpermitted surveillance nearly unavoidable. EDEC pioneered the field of signal isolation with its original line of Faraday products designed for security and forensic professionals. Today, EDEC’s OffGrid™ line makes the same level of digital security available to civilian and business users who aim to safeguard their data and privacy.
